A woman has had her living room essentially sealed off by police after making a startling discovery in her fireplace.
In the cavity wall behind the fire, a series of bone fragments have been found. The room has since had to be “closed off until the bones have been analysed to determine species”. Lauren Jones in the popular group, , which focuses on homes dated from the 1700s to the mid-century modern era, which spanned from 1945-1970.
While it’s often a space for sharing incredible before and after image carousels of houses throughout the years, or impressive yet respectful interior transformations and décor choices, it can also be a destination for disclosing the and sometimes macabre finds unearthed in people’s homes.
This was the case for Lauren, who shared a series of photographs from her home in Yorkshire and penned: “These were just some of the bones the police found yesterday in their excited excursion in our fireplace and cavity wall... They can't safely remove much more so have said the room is closed off until the bones have been analysed to determine species.”

To her cautious relief, police were “adamant that based solely on the jaw alone, they probably aren't human at all, despite them saying a lot of the others look definitively human.” Lauren “agreed” with this determination until she “spent hours last night” Googling “human remains” and “stumbled across a picture that's almost identical to the piece of jaw they discovered”.
She posted her found images and asked fellow group members if they believed the bones discovered in her home looked the same as internet images of human remains. Lauren added: “We don't think they're human! And are feeling much more at ease about it all, but the question remains, WHY the heck has somebody removed part of the chimney breast to stuff it into the cavity wall? As we say in Yorkshire, nowt as queer as folk eh?”
People rushed to the comments section to share their thoughts. Most seemed to believe the jaw bones belonged to an animal. One person commented: “The jaw looks like a horses.”
A second agreed and replied: “I was thinking that or a pony”, while a third said: “I am gonna guess sheep or goat from the jaw bone on this one... but keep us posted.” One person wondered: “Why would you put animal bones or dead animal in the wall? It must [have] stunk, interesting to find out, please keep up posted.”
Another Facebook user simply said: “Fascinating!” And another said: “This is one wild story.” One person concluded: “The jaw is definitely not human! Phew!” And another added: “Whatever the remains are, this will be one wild story to retell at dinner parties.”
